Bademler at a glance…

    The village of Bademler is located on the west coast of Turkey, 35 kilometers from the city center of İzmir and 9 kilometers from the regional market town of Urla. The village nestles amongst gentle rolling hills a little above sea level and has a gentle climate. Its population of some 1400 citizens is hardworking, though poor people. The life style is based on the central importance of the human factor and establishing harmony with nature. Its women are privileged and able to take the lead in all areas of life. Moreover, Bademler, with its deep social traditions, has cooperative foundations and civilian society organizations. Its citizens are intellectual, secular, modern, democratic and happy to be a part of the village.

    Bademler, where you can see the footprints of age old Turkish Shamanism blended with the traditions of ancient civilizations, is situated in the middle of the richest archaeological region of the Asia Minor. To the north the Bronze Age settlement of Limantepe shares the same material culture as well as Troy, next to this is the ancient city of Clazomenae, the birth place of the philosopher Anaxagoras, where the earliest olive oil factory ever found has been reconstructed, and to the south the greatest temple of Dionysus and the league of theatre players at Teos ancient city.

     With its roots deep in history and its aspirations towards the future, Bademler is a shining representative of the face of Modern Turkey and staunch follower of the founder of the Modern Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Our village, while benefiting from the positive effects of globalization has also been faced with its negative effects.

Our aim is to become a CULTURE VILLAGE in order to decrease the negative effects and we gain our motivation for this from our belief, ambition, determination and loyalty to the roots of our village. Furthermore, we wish to share the values gained during the long social and historical development that we have been through and create a platform for various cultures to come together and share their values and insights with each other. In achieving this goal, we expect to see a noticeable increase in the welfare of the villagers and our most important achievement will be preserving our traditional cultural, historical and artistic heritage that make Bademler unique, alive and valuable.
